The suede is made from the underside of bovine leather, which has been brushed to make it softer and more flexible. It comes from farms in southern Brazil (Rio Grande do Sul). It is tanned in Brazil without the use of any harmful or banned chemicals. VEJA uses conventional dyes that comply with regulations. Special attention is paid to water use during the tanning process. The suede is also coated with PFC-free (chemical compounds) water-repellent oils to protect the shoes from light rain.

The suede is Silver certified by the Leather Working Group.
